EPA SPCC GUIDE NOW AVAILABLE

The EPA released the SPCC Guidance for Regional Inspectors on December 2, 2005.  This document is very comprehensive and answers many questions on how the federal code should be interpreted.  The document is intended to assist regional inspectors in reviewing a facility's implementation of the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) rule at 40 CFR part 112.  Our review has revealed how much responsibility has been placed on the Engineer.  Most existing SPCC plans will now need to be updated to bring them into compliance.  The guide gives very detailed requirements for standards, calculations and record keeping to be a part of a facilities SPCC plan.

SPCC GUIDANCE DOCUMENT INCREASES
THE VALUE OF AN INSTA-DIKE SYSTEM

The strict standards set by the SPCC Guidance for Regional Inspectors call for specific requirements for sizing, flow rates and record keeping for oil-water separators.  Dike systems are required to prove they meet imperviousness  standards and keep detailed records of precipitation removal.  Portable systems are very labor intensive and have a short life.  Many facilities that have assumed that they are in compliance will need to reevaluate.  The installation of an Insta-Dike system at your loading rack can reduce maintenance, insure that the secondary containment is used by your personnel and prevent the need for most record keeping.  We are anxious to help both engineers and facility managers.  Please contact us to discuss your needs.  Our no obligation engineering assistance could save you many headaches and dollars.
